Asian Performing Arts

      A group of dedicated and talented performers and artists with the
      goal of promoting and retaining Chinese cultural arts.
      Provides performances, dance, martial arts and
      cultural arts educational programs to schools,
      churches, corporations and different sponsoring
      organizations. Performed in numerous international
      festivals across Connecticut and Massachusetts, and
      fund raising events. Performing troupe consists of
      youth artists from ages 10 through 17 as well as
      adult artists. Founder Stephanie Sum is also the
      dance instructor at the Chinese Language School of

Ballet Theatre Academy

Ballet Theatre Academy opened in September 2005 to help fulfill the mission of Ballet Theatre Company to provide professional-caliber dance training to highly-motivated dancers. Under the artistic direction of Richard Steinert, The Academy offers a full professional ballet training program for children
      and adults of all ages, as well as more informal classes for those who
      simply enjoy dancing. Ballet Theatre Academy welcomes dance
      students from throughout the Greater Hartford area and beyond. A
      carefully selected faculty offers instruction in creative movement (for
      younger children), ballet, pointe, jazz, Pilates and modern dance.
      Classes are offered at the newly renovated studio at 20 Jefferson
      Avenue in West Hartford. Here, the dancers enjoy a spacious, bright
      dance studio with a special sprung floor suitable for rehearsals and
      classes; dressing areas; storage for costumes and props; kitchen
      facilities; office space for staff; and a comfortable reception area.

Hartford Conservatory

The Diploma School at the Hartford Conservatory offers a two-year
      dance major in performance or pedagogy. This total immersion
      program is rigorous, requiring the student to be motivated and in
      excellent physical condition. Dancers take technique classes in
      modern, jazz, tap and ballet, with related studies in Dance History,
      Anatomy, Kinesiology, Music for Dancers, and Choreography.
      Pedagogy majors study teaching methods combined with apprentice
      teaching and Performance majors focus on
      repertory combined with additional
      performance and internship opportunities.
      This program is accredited by the New
      England Association of Schools and Colleges,
      and licensed by the State of Connecticut
      Department of Higher Education.
      The community program at the Hartford Conservatory offers people of

     the arts as catalysts for learning, individual

Miss Porter's School

     Miss Porter’s School challenges girls in grades nine through 12 to become resourceful, informed, responsible, and ethical global citizens. Our demanding curriculum—academic, artistic, athletic, and residential—prepares young women for college and for life. Founded in 1843 and located in an historic community, Miss Porter’s is a college preparatory boarding and day school, with a diverse student body hailing from 28 states and 13 countries. Miss Porter’s School offers dance both as a Sports requirement for all interested students and as an Arts elective for those who audition and are accepted into to our student dance company, Dance Workshop. We have class four days a week and offer ballet, jazz, and modern dance as well as
     Pilates body conditioning, African, Improvisation, Choreography,
     Hip- hop, and Capoeira. Our Dance Workshop members rehearse an
     additional six hours a week and present four performances during the
     year on campus. These dedicated and experienced dancers also
     perform throughout the state and among professional companies.
     Dance Workshop has presented work at Connecticut Dance Alliance’s
     Dance Alive Festival, the Ted Hershey Dance & Music Marathon,
     Hartford's Dancing and at the opening of the Belding Theater at the
     Bushnell Memorial Performing Arts Center in Hartford. The girls have
     performed pieces by a number of professional choreographers including
     Judy Dworin, Laura Glenn,Ted Hershey, Deborah Goffe, Shari Azar, Ruth
     Lewis and Avis Hatcher.

     The Studio 47 Series invites choreographer, performance artists and
     musicians in the region to share their work in less formal setting. The
     monthly performances give audiences an opportunity to ask the artists
     questions about their process and vision and a chance for the artists
     to share both finished work and work-in-progress in an environment
     the encourages dialogue and interaction.

      Jean Sabatine is Head of the Movement/Dance Area and Professor of
      Dramatic Arts in Movement and Dance. Ms. Sabatine is a leader in the
      fields of Jazz Dance and Movement for Actors. She has extensive
      training and experience in both academic and professional areas. She
      trained extensively in New York City in modern dance, ballet, and jazz
      dance and studied acting at Herbert Berghof Studio. Ms. Sabatine is
      the founder of Jazz Dance Theater (Wayne State, 1970, Penn State
      University, 1974, and UConn, 1980), the first jazz company in a
      university. Jazz Dance Theater and Ms. Sabatine's choreography have
      been hailed as powerful and innovative in both national and local
      media. Films and video tapes of Ms. Sabatine's concert level jazz
      dance choreography, as well as a documentary on her work in
      movement for actor's training, are now a part of the New York Public
      Library's permanent Jerome Robbins archive at Lincoln Center.

Offers students, ages three-and-a-half and up, classes in ballet, tap, jazz, and various modern dance techniques. Carrying on traditions of the School of the Hartford Ballet and the School of Dance Connecticut. Students learn from highly qualified faculty and professionals. Students with high aspirations can participate in the Intensive Program, which begins around eight years of age, with either ballet or modern theatre dance.
